How MaFengWo Scaled Its “Big Transportation” Team with TAPD – A R&D Management Case Study
This article details how MaFengWo built and refined its large‑transportation development workflow over four phases—initial setup, rapid growth, business expansion, and future outlook—leveraging TAPD for agile iteration, issue tracking, test planning, Gantt‑based resource management, and DevOps integration to boost delivery efficiency and product quality.
Phase 1 – Initial Setup
In early 2019, MaFengWo launched its "Big Transportation" service (flight, train, car‑rental) and formed a small team whose primary goal was to quickly fill the business gap. The team adopted a bi‑weekly iteration model, classifying demands into daily, project, and online‑event categories, and used TAPD’s Kanban board for demand, iteration, and project management.
Core demand‑delivery timelines were visualized (see Fig. 1) and each two‑week cycle involved a PK process to prioritize work based on project value, priority, and resource availability.
Phase 2 – Rapid Growth
During fast‑growth, the team faced low test quality and many bugs (over 100 per project). To improve, they used TAPD’s defect module for online‑issue tracking and its test‑case & test‑plan features to raise self‑testing efficiency, cutting bug count by about 35%.
Standardized issue‑feedback flow (Fig. 5) moved problem reporting from scattered WeChat groups into TAPD, where issues are filtered, reproduced, classified, and assigned deadlines. Weekly reports keep leadership informed.
Phase 3 – Business Expansion
As the team grew, management needed finer granularity. TAPD’s iteration feature replaced the simple Kanban, while Gantt charts provided clear visibility of individual workloads and project timelines. Custom fields (business line, value model, bug density, etc.) supported scenario‑specific tracking (Fig. 11‑13).
Switching to iterations increased monthly project output by roughly 25%.
Phase 4 – Future Outlook
The team now explores deeper integration of Agile and DevOps, using TAPD APIs to build a PMO dashboard that tracks output, delay rates, and iteration health, while linking TAPD with internal DevOps platforms for end‑to‑end automation.
