How to Resolve Cursor Free VIP File‑Not‑Found Errors After an Update

Background

After updating to a new version, Cursor changes its default installation directory to C:\Program Files\cursor. Cursor Free VIP, however, still expects the old path C:\Users\<em>username</em>\AppData\Local\Programs\Cursor, causing a file‑not‑found error when resetting the machine ID.

Step 1: Locate the Cursor Installation Directory

Open the toolbar in Cursor and copy the displayed path. It should be:

C:\Program Files\cursor

Step 2: Locate the Cursor Free VIP Configuration Directory

Run CursorFreeVIP_1.11.03_windows.exe and press 10⚙️ to show the configuration. The config folder is typically: C:\Users\<em>username</em>\Documents\.cursor-free-vip Make a backup copy of config.ini before editing.

Step 3: Modify Configuration Values

Open config.ini and edit the three path entries cursor_path, update_yml_path, and product_json_path. Only change the part before \resources; keep the resources segment unchanged.

Save the file, then close CursorFreeVIP_1.11.03_windows.exe and reopen it with administrator rights.

Step 4: Test the Fix

Run the tool and select option 1 . When entering a phone number, change the default country code from +1 to +86 for China, then input the number (e.g., 183123456789) which will be formatted automatically.

Log out of the original account, then sign in again using the email verification code.
