JetBrains Announces New Default UI for the Upcoming 2024.2 IDE Release

Earlier this year JetBrains released the 2024.1 update for several of its IDEs, and the company now announces that the forthcoming 2024.2 version will enable a brand‑new default UI for all JetBrains IDEs.

The new UI will include a fresh default theme with both light and dark variants, a redesigned window title bar, updated tool windows, a revamped navigation bar, and a compact mode, all aimed at reducing visual clutter and improving usability.

Alongside the UI overhaul, JetBrains is releasing an Int UI Kit and an Icons pack to help developers create consistent user interfaces.

The development of the new UI began in 2021, involving extensive user research, preview and beta releases, and more than ten usability studies over three years before the official launch.

For users who miss the classic UI, JetBrains has packaged it as a plugin available through the JetBrains Marketplace, with a prompt appearing in version 2024.2 or via the Settings → Plugins menu.

Additionally, the company is updating its UI Guidelines to align with the new design.

As a bonus, readers can reply with the keyword "图书" to receive a free programmer book management system source code.
