Mastering SAE Enterprise Cost Allocation: Tagging Strategies for Precise Cloud Billing

Overview

Serverless App Engine (SAE) provides enterprise cost‑allocation (分账) by leveraging Alibaba Cloud tag system and Cost Center. Tags are key‑value pairs attached to SAE applications; each application can have up to 20 tags.

Tag Planning

Define tags based on business dimensions such as environment (production, testing, OS, client platform) or project/department (e.g., CostCenter:aliyun). Tags enable grouping, searching, and aggregation of resources.

Implementation Steps

Plan tags for applications according to organizational or business dimensions.

Bind tags to applications via the SAE console or API.

Enable cost tags in Alibaba Cloud Cost Center so that billing records contain tag information.

Optionally create financial units and assign tagged resources to them for aggregated billing.

View and export cost‑allocation bills from the User Center, filter by tags, and analyse CPU/memory usage per application.

Step 1 – Tag Definition

In the SAE console’s Application Management page, edit tags. Each tag is a Key=Value pair; an application can have up to 20 tags.

Step 2 – Enable Cost Tags and Financial Units

In the Cost Center, turn on “Cost Tags”. After enabling, billing details will include tag fields, allowing tag‑based filtering.

Financial units act as aggregation groups. Assign resources with the same tag (e.g., same department) to a financial unit to obtain unified billing statistics.

Step 3 – View and Export Allocation Bills

The cost‑allocation bill lists SAE application CPU and memory charges together with tag information. Customize columns to include usage and package deductions. Pay‑as‑you‑go customers see instance usage; package purchasers also see package deduction details.

Use the tag filter to display specific bill details and export the entire bill as a CSV file for further statistical analysis.

Key Points

Tags enable fine‑grained cost tracking across environments, projects, and departments.

Financial units provide aggregated views for internal chargeback.

Exported CSV files facilitate offline statistical processing.

SAE Capabilities

SAE is a fully managed, zero‑ops PaaS that supports Spring Cloud, Dubbo, HSF, web applications, XXL‑JOB, ElasticJob, and offers numerous enterprise‑grade features.
