Linux System Installation Process

Linux dominates server operating systems, and mastering its installation is essential for security and system administration work.

Enter BIOS and set the computer to boot from the CD/DVD drive, then save and exit (F10).

Insert the Linux installation CD, restart the computer, and when the welcome screen appears, press Enter to start the graphical installer (or type linux text for a text‑mode install).

When prompted to verify the CD, click Skip and press Enter.

Proceed through the installer by clicking Next at each step.

Choose your preferred language and click Next .

Select the keyboard layout (default is US English) and click Next .

A partition warning appears stating that initializing the disk will erase existing data; click Yes and then Next .

The installer offers to partition the disk automatically; if you do not need additional partitions, simply click Next .

Set the time zone (e.g., Asia/Shanghai) and click Next .

Configure the ROOT account information and click Next .

Choose software packages to install. For a custom installation, click Customize now and then Next .

In the "Desktop Environments" list, deselect GNOME if you do not want a graphical desktop.

Select desired applications, development tools, and server packages, then click Next .

The system begins installing and displays a progress bar.

When installation completes, a prompt appears; click Reboot to restart the system. The Linux OS is now installed.
