Step-by-Step Guide to Registering a Personal WeChat Mini Program

Mini Program Registration

Choose the Mini Program type and create a new account. The email address must be unique across all WeChat public platform accounts. After entering the email, activate it via the verification link, then submit the registration information.

Publishing Workflow

The publishing process consists of three main steps:

Upload the code package (ZIP or .wgt) through the WeChat DevTools.

Configure the app information, including app name, description, icons, and required permissions.

Submit the package for platform review. The review typically checks for compliance with content policies and proper use of APIs.

Successful review makes the Mini Program available to users.

Personal Filing (备案)

Personal filing differs from corporate filing and requires careful selection of service categories and documentation.

Key Requirements

Service Category : Select a category that does not imply commercial intent (e.g., “Knowledge Learning Tool”, “Testing Tool”). Categories with commercial adjectives such as “appointment”, “yoga”, or “hot pot” will be rejected during the initial platform review.

Identity and Residence Proof : Provide a valid personal ID and a local residence permit, temporary residence certificate, or a social‑security contribution proof (downloadable as PDF from WeChat).

Mini Program Name : The name must avoid commercial terms. Use a name that clearly indicates personal learning or research use; otherwise the filing will be repeatedly rejected.

After filling the basic Mini Program information and personal details, submit the filing form and wait for platform approval.

MIIT SMS Verification

When the filing is approved, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) sends an SMS containing a verification code. Enter this code in the case information management system to complete the verification.

Filing Approval

Once approved, the registration information is automatically added to the Mini Program’s profile; no manual insertion is required. The result can also be verified on the official ICP website.

Mini Program Certification

Personal certification costs ¥30 per attempt and is non‑refundable if the certification fails. The most common cause of failure is an inappropriate name that suggests commercial use. The certified name replaces the Mini Program’s name, so ensure it aligns with personal learning or research.

After submission, the result is usually communicated by phone within 1–2 hours (no more than half a day), followed by a WeChat notification.
