Tsinghua University & Meituan Digital Life Joint Research Institute Academic Salon: Large Model Technologies and Challenges

The event, titled "Tsinghua University‑Meituan Digital Life Joint Research Institute Academic Salon," is initiated and hosted by the joint research institute. Since March 2022, it regularly invites experts from academia and industry to share frontier technologies and industrial practice across multiple technical fields, aiming to promote industry‑academia‑research collaboration and drive technological innovation.

Topic and Speaker

Since 2018, pre‑training language model technology has enabled self‑supervised learning on massive unlabeled data, dramatically improving the performance of natural language processing tasks and ushering artificial intelligence into the era of large models. Large models require efficient parallel computing, introducing a new paradigm for machine learning and opening broad exploration space for NLP and other scenarios. This talk will present the latest advances in large‑model technology and summarize ten key challenges, inviting peers to explore frontier issues and promote research and application of large models.

Speaker Biography

Liu Zhiyuan, Associate Professor and PhD supervisor in the Computer Science Department of Tsinghua University, focuses on representation learning, knowledge graphs, and social computing. He earned his PhD in 2011, has published over 100 papers in top AI venues such as ACL, EMNLP, IJCAI, and AAAI, and has been cited more than 20,000 times according to Google Scholar. His honors include the Ministry of Education Natural Science First Prize (second contributor), the CIPS Qian Weichang Award (second contributor), the CIPS Hanwang Youth Innovation Award, and selection as a National “Ten Thousand Talent” Youth Elite, among others. He serves as chair for several conferences and holds editorial positions, including Associate Editor of AI Open.
