Why Nvidia’s Custom B30A Chip Commands $24,000 in China

According to Reuters, Nvidia’s upcoming China‑customized B30A GPU is expected to cost up to $24,000 per chip, roughly double the price of the current H20 GPU ($10‑12k).

The H20 GPU continues to see strong demand in China because of its performance advantages and integration with local supply chains, especially among small‑ and medium‑size AI developers.

Despite Chinese government efforts to promote domestic AI chips, market preference for Nvidia remains high. Recent temporary easing of US export restrictions on Nvidia and AMD AI chips has spurred interest in local alternatives such as Cambricon, whose 2025 H1 revenue is projected to surge 43‑fold.

Chinese leading enterprises are still purchasing Nvidia chips and closely monitoring licensing approvals for the H20 GPU. Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang expressed confidence that a China‑specific Blackwell‑based chip could obtain US approval.

AMD has halted new wafer production for the China‑specific MI300 AI GPU, and the outlook for licensing approvals will influence future AI chip investments in China.

The intense demand for the B30A chip is driven by expectations that its compute performance could be six times that of its predecessor, making it a cost‑effective choice for AI inference and training despite its higher price.
