The April PYPL (Popularity of Programming Language) report presents four rankings—programming languages, IDEs, online IDEs, and databases—based on Google search frequency, highlighting Python’s 5.2% market share rise, Visual Studio’s dominance, Oracle’s decline, and the emergence of Cloud9, JSFiddle and Repl.it among online IDEs.
According to the August 2023 PYPL Top IDE Index, Visual Studio remains the most popular IDE worldwide, followed by Eclipse and Android Studio, while Android Studio shows a notable 3% year‑over‑year growth and Eclipse experiences the steepest decline, reflecting shifting developer preferences.
In October, Eclipse surged to 24.93% in the PYPL IDE Index, overtaking Visual Studio for the top rank, while Android Studio placed third and IntelliJ IDEA climbed to fifth, highlighting shifting developer tool preferences based on Google search trends.
