Apple's LensVLM: Compress Long Text to Images, Zoom In for Details

Apple and Duke University propose LensVLM, a vision-language model that compresses long documents into images for efficient browsing, then lets the model selectively magnify relevant pages by retrieving original text, achieving 68.9% accuracy at 4.3x effective compression on seven QA benchmarks, nearing full-text performance while reducing latency and GPU costs.
