Alibaba Cloud Announces New Immersion Liquid Cooling Technical Standards and Whitepapers at the First Immersion Liquid Cooling Intelligent Computing Industry Forum

On May 12, the first Immersion Liquid Cooling Intelligent Computing Industry Forum was held online, with representatives from about forty companies including ODCC, Alibaba, and OPPO. Following the release of the "Immersion Liquid Cooling Server Reliability Whitepaper" at the previous ODCC summit, Alibaba Cloud announced three new immersion liquid cooling technical standards and two whitepapers.

The forum, initiated by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology Cloud Computing and Big Data Institute, Alibaba, and OPPO, aims to build an ecosystem for China's immersion liquid cooling intelligent computing industry and promote innovation and large‑scale deployment.

Technical Standard 1: "Immersion Liquid Cooling Technology Material Compatibility Test Specification" emphasizes the need for unified evaluation criteria for material compatibility in immersion cooling environments.

Technical Standard 2: "Immersion Liquid Cooling Cabinet & Server Structure Standard" addresses the lack of existing standards for cabinet and server designs suitable for immersion cooling, providing guidance for developers.

Technical Standard 3: "Immersion Liquid Cooling Optical Module Reliability Standard" fills the gap in reliability testing for optical modules in immersion cooling, supporting industry standardization.

Alibaba Cloud also highlighted its research contributions, noting three first‑author papers accepted at DesignCon 2022 covering high‑speed interconnect performance, low‑cost PCB design, and system‑level optimization in immersion cooling environments, thereby validating the feasibility of its technology roadmap.

The company’s immersion cooling solutions have earned multiple awards, including the 2020 IDC Industry Innovation Technology Award and several CCSA, CCF, and Data Center Conference honors.

Under China’s "dual carbon" policy and Alibaba’s carbon‑neutral goals, the team promotes energy‑saving, low‑carbon data center solutions, asserting that immersion liquid cooling offers high energy efficiency, density, reliability, and availability, and will become a key infrastructure for a green digital economy.
